On 17 March 1892, an Application for Establishment of a public school in West Dubbo was received by the Under Secretary, Department of Public Instruction.

The application had been entered after concerns from parents, who resided in West Dubbo, that their children would be trampled by cattle while crossing the bridge to attend Dubbo Public School.

A total of 48 years passed before a school was planned to be built in the West Dubbo area.

On Friday 15 March 1940 a meeting was held by the West Dubbo Progress Association, imploring citizens residing in West Dubbo to support the construction of a school in the West Dubbo area. The dream became reality in 1943 when the Minister for Education approved the erection of a new schooling facility in West Dubbo.

The school was opened on 1 February 1944 and consisted of a double wooden building (still currently on the primary site).

By 1946 enrolments reached 80 students. These 80 students were made up of 2 classes of mixed Infants and Primary age students.

The school is now a split site, having a separate infants school which was opened in 1970. There are now more then 500 students, with enrolments being over 800 in previous years.
