The AEAs (Aboriginal Education Assistant) and Aboriginal Support Staff are an important part of any Aboriginal students schooling at Dubbo West Public School.
An AEA provides support to Aboriginal students within the school community. Such things would be school work including homework or study, or other of the students life. The AEAs role is to provide not only support to the students but to also the students parents and teachers.

The ways in which they do this are to go into the classrooms, talk with teachers and students, and find out where they can help. The AEAs in conjunction with the Aboriginal Support Staff and the Home School Liaison Officer ensure that the students are attending school, and if not they find out why.
Both the AEAs and Support Staff partake in home visits, visiting the homes of children that have been absent for any length of time or on any regular occurence.
The AEAs and Support Staff conduct literacy programs between recess and lunch for years 3 & 4, and in the afternoons for years 5 & 6.
The AEAs
also provide support to the parents and aid them with what most would think
trivial tasks. Such things include organising uniforms for the students and
lunches for them while at school.
An AEA not only supports the students but they also support the teaching staff,
giving a hand where
one is needed.
Both AEAs and Support Staff are also involved in the running of special programs
including the Homework Centre, which helps the students, after school, with
the homework they have been supplied.
